Lenz Entertainment filmed a concert by the Simon Bolivar Youth
Orchestra at the Rogers Centre in Toronto on the occasion of
Maestro Jose Antonio Abreu receiving the distinguished Glenn
Gould Prize. He established the El Sistema concept of teaching a life
of music in Venezuela and his system of teaching is now known
around the world. The orchestra is huge (about 250 members) and
they perform at the level of any major symphony orchestra in the
world. One of their most famous graduates in Gustavo Dudamel,
who is now the Musical Director of the LA Philharmonic Orchestra.
“Teaching the Life of Music” is a documentary about the reach and
influence of the El Sistema method around the world and the SBYO
Concert Special is the concert that this young orchestra plated for
15,000 teenagers at the Rogers Center. You could hear a pin drop.
